Tuesday, September 5, 2017

Vancouver’s funniest and finest team up with international comedy stars at the 19th Annual Vancouver International Improv Festival, October 11 to 14 on Granville Island. Comedy fans will enjoy over 40 unique performances, inspiring workshops and an opening night gala to celebrate Vancouver’s booming improv scene.

This year’s festival welcomes headliners The Future from Philadelphia, Broke Gravy from Portland, Rapid Fire Theatre from Edmonton and more. Vancouver favourites such as Hip.Bang!, The Fictionals, and Sunday Service will also be showcased.

“This year’s Vancouver International Improv Festival will shine a spotlight on the fantastic Vancouver improv scene, as well as bringing in some immense talent from around North America,” said Alistair Cook, Festival Director. “We have improvised TED Talks, naughty puppets, twisted sci-fi dystopia and more. Whatever comedy you’re into, VIIF has got you covered.”

Audiences can get their comedy fix at the festival’s three Granville Island venues, the Ramada Mainstage at Performance Works, Steam Whistle Revue Stage and Waterfront Theatre. Shows run 7:30pm and 9:30 every evening, with each evening spotlighting a wide variety of comedy. Vancouver TheatreSports League’s The Improv Centre will also host late-night shows.

VIIF 2017 will also feature two unique supergroups: an International Ensemble with some of the finest improvisers in the world, and a Vancouver Ensemble combining some of the best performers in the city.

“The VIIF International Ensemble is a special experience that is dear to my heart,” said Jennifer Pielak, International Ensemble member. “You get to work with fantastic improvisers, teachers and artists from all over the world; the power you feel on stage performing together is like no other.”

Rae Lynn Carson, a member of the Vancouver Ensemble, The Fictionals, and Nasty Women, echoes Jennifer’s excitement for the Festival.

“Being a part of the Vancouver Ensemble at VIIF is so exciting! This will be the first festival I get to perform in and being able to represent our city makes me so proud,” said Carson. “I’m also thrilled to be apart of The Fictionals and the all-female group Nasty Women! The latter represents just a small portion of all the funny ladies in Vancouver and we have a blast performing together! Definitely come check us out, you won’t be disappointed!”
